Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty! That is the Turtle Hermit way!
An apt quote from our beloved Master Roshi. If Dragon Ball has taught me anything, besides that screaming your lungs out during strenuous work does in fact make you stronger, it’s that rest is as important to one’s success as the hard work you build around it.
Rest of course, is earned. There’s an obvious difference between someone who is bone idle and someone who rests because they’ve worked hard or is feeling burnt out, but it begs the question, why am I so bad at it? Why do I feel the need to attempt to allocate every sector of my free time to something and any attempt at relaxation is met with feelings of guilt or ineptitude.
Perhaps it’s just the society we live in nowadays and the prevalence of hustle culture, especially among young people. The fear that we’re wasting our youth if we’re not min-maxing everything we do and transform every interest into some kind of money spinning ambition.
I work hard for my money and to be where I am. If I want to sleep 13 hours on a weekend or enjoy some quiet time playing some C&C Red Alert 2 I’ll damn well do so. At least I can rest and relax in the knowledge that it’s just as important for my personal and professional growth as the work that tired me out in the first place.
