A picture of me in the Austrian alps

Hey! Welcome to my website.

I’m currently a Senior Laravel Developer at Spindogs, working within its bespoke systems team. My work spans hands-on PHP and Laravel development, technical discovery, architecture, estimation, and delivery. I help turn client requirements into solutions that are sensible to build and pleasant to maintain.

Before that, I worked at Tebex (Overwolf) on the backend systems behind digital payments, checkout, and subscriptions. That involved payment integrations, APIs, asynchronous workflows, and performance-sensitive code. All the fun that comes with software expected to behave when money’s involved!

I’ve been writing code for almost my entire life, although things became more serious at sixth form when I started cobbling together websites in PHP and building basic applications in Visual Basic. After university, I trained as a computer science teacher before eventually deciding that solving problems by building software was where I really wanted to be. That slightly unusual teaching background still follows me around in software engineering, in a good way. I care a lot about clear documentation, constructive code review, knowledge sharing, and explaining complicated technical ideas without making them overcomplicated.

Outside of my day job, I co-lead Petrobolos Games, an independent studio where I work on games and cool internal tools. I also volunteer as a software developer with Three Rings, contributing to its eponymous volunteer management software and the continued development of Portal. I’m also an enthusiastic starter of side projects. Some of them even get finished.

When I’m not at a computer, I’m usually reading, working through an ever-growing collection of films and TV on physical media, improving my German, or deepening my understanding of Christian theology.
